Tracklisting

The final instalment in the Brilliant Live Adventures (1995-1999) series of live albums was At The Kit Kat Klub (Live New York 99).

The album announced on 17 March 2021, and went on sale two days later, ahead of its 2 April release date.

The concert was recorded in New York on 19 November 1999 in front of an invite-only audience of fans and contest winners. It was recorded and filmed, and broadcast in December 1999 on liveonline.net.

The set was markedly similar to the previous album in the series, Something In The Air (Live Paris 99), which was recorded with the same musicians just one month earlier. The only songs unique to At The Kit Kat Klub were ‘Stay’ and ‘I’m Afraid Of Americans’, while Something In The Air contained versions of ‘Word On A Wing’, ‘Drive-In Saturday’, ‘Repetition’, ‘I Can’t Read’, and ‘Rebel Rebel’.

At The Kit Kat Klub was not the full concert, and contained just 12 of the 17 songs performed. The missing songs were ‘Drive-In Saturday’, ‘Cracked Actor’, ‘Ashes To Ashes’, ‘Repetition’, and ‘Rebel Rebel’.

The 12-song set had been widely bootlegged previously, having been issued as a promotional CD by Virgin in 1999, meaning that many fans already owned the set.

Furthermore, the recordings of ‘Seven’, ‘Something In The Air’, and ‘The Pretty Things Are Going To Hell’ had been officially released in the UK in July 2000, on the third CD single of ‘Seven’.

Despite these issues, At The Kit Kat Klub (Live New York 99) sold out faster than any of the other BLA releases, although server crashes on the Warner webstore Dig meant that many fans were left frustrated and disappointed with the process. Vinyl and CDs on Bowie’s online store and Rhino’s webstore sold out in minutes, as did the reissued vinyl slipcases for the complete set. The CD slipcases sold out in just over 30 minutes.
