David Bowie flew from London to New York on 8 September 1971 to sign a recording contract with RCA.
The record deal had been arranged by his manager Tony Defries and RCA’s A&R executive Dennis Katz.
Bowie was accompanied on the trip by his wife Angie, plus guitarist Mick Ronson. They stayed at the Warwick Hotel on West 54th Street.
The RCA contract was signed the following day.
