David Bowie won an Ivor Novello Award on 10 May 1970.
The award was for ‘Space Oddity’, which was nominated in the Most Original Song category. Bowie performed the song on a 12-string acoustic guitar, with an orchestral backing conducted by Les Reed.
The ceremony took place at the Talk Of The Town nightclub in Leicester Square, London. It was broadcast on BBC radio, and televised in Australia and parts of Europe and the USA.
