David Bowie performed his final show with his first band, The Konrads, on Tuesday 31 December 1963.
The event was a New Year’s Eve party at Justin Hall in West Wickham, Bromley, London. The support acts were The Trubeats, featuring Bowie’s former schoolfriend and future collaborator Peter Frampton, and The Couriers.
This was also the final Konrads show for Alan Dodds, one of the band’s guitarists. The Konrads had a fluid line-up at the best of times, and they continued with the addition of singer Rocky Shahan, and keyboard player Tony Edwards.
In the new year Bowie formed a new band, The King Bees, with George Underwood on vocals, guitar and harmonica, guitarist Roger Bluck, bass guitarist Dave Howard, and drummer Robbert Allen.
